Community Engagement

Student Family Interviews

At the beginning of my student teaching, I wanted to get to know the students and their families. 

​

The Student Family Interview Activity created the opportunity for families to engage in their child's learning. 

​

As an educator, I was able to learn about the students in my class, while also meeting Grade 3 standards for Social Studies. 

Literacy Block

The purpose of my literacy block is to create opportunities for individual and guided instruction.

 

Individual and group conferencing are very important to me. I also plan to implement online or virtual tools into my literacy block, such as Edulastic and iReady Reading.

Writing and Reading

In my student teaching, I designed a multimodal lesson around "Einstein's Lawn Mower."

This is a leveled book in the Fountas and Pinnell collection and is designed for grade 3. My lesson focused on inventions and improvements within the community.

Persuasive Writing

Grade 3

Using Lucy Calkin's Persuasive Writing Unit of Study collection, I created and implemented a 2-3 week learning segment on opinion writing. Students learned about the "art of persuasion," the structure of opinion writing, and how to address their audience. 

​

Below, you will find the lesson plans used for each step of the segment, as well as student artifacts from beginning to end that include informal and formal assessments. These lessons were designed for EdTPA.
